Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord. Blessed are they who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart. They do nothing wrong; they walk in His ways. You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands. I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me.
(Psalm 119:1-8 NIV)
How good are you at devotions and worship? I am lousy at it. Psalm 119 is filled with devotion, worship and heartfelt repentance to God. It is an acrostic poem; the first word of each stanza begins with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The psalmist must have prayed and meditated at length in order to present such a beautiful and powerful poem to the Lord.
Starting this Friday May, 25th, and for the next 26 weeks, I will submit a stanza with the first word beginning with a letter of the English alphabet. After the stanza I will add a short commentary and a verse of Scripture to compliment it. My challenge to you is to leave your own stanza beginning with the week’s letter in the comment box. At the end of the 26 weeks, we will have built, together, an extraordinary psalm of our own, filled with our devotion and worship to our Lord. I will also encourage you to keep track of all the stanzas you submit for your own devotional and worship purposes. This is an exercise of faith to strengthen us. Please join me each Friday through November 16. Let us show our gratitude to, and our trust in Jesus Christ with our thoughts, prayers and words. It will be interesting to see how this grows and it will be wonderful to know that it glorifies God.
See you Friday with the letter A.
